Nicolas Lunven Sets Solo Sailing Record
Nicolas Lunven of France set a new record for the longest distance covered by a solo skipper in a monohull yacht during the Vendée Globe race, traveling 546.60 nautical miles (1,012 km) in 24 hours. This achievement, recorded on November 13, surpasses the previous record of 540 nautical miles set by Thomas Ruyant. Lunven's vessel, Holcim-PRB, also holds the crewed record for 640.48 nautical miles achieved earlier in The Ocean Race. The record is pending official ratification by the World Sailing Speed Record Council. The Vendée Globe, known as the "Everest of the Seas," is a non-stop, solo race around the world, covering approximately 24,000 nautical miles. The race commenced on November 10, featuring 40 skippers from 11 nations.
