David V. Coffey Arrested in 1980s Cold Case

After more than three decades, Danbury police have arrested David V. Coffey, 53, in connection with a series of abductions and rapes from the late 1980s. The case was reopened in November 2023 when a victim came forward, prompting the use of modern forensic technology and reinterviews with individuals related to the original investigation. Coffey, who lived in Danbury at the time of the crimes, was identified as a suspect with assistance from the State Police Forensic Laboratory and was charged with first-degree kidnapping. He is currently held on a $750,000 bond. Authorities believe Coffey may be linked to additional unsolved cases from that period and are actively seeking more information from the public. Police have indicated that further arrests could be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
