EA Ends Apex Legends Support on Linux, Steam Deck

Electronic Arts (EA) and Respawn Entertainment have decided to withdraw support for Apex Legends on Linux and Steam Deck due to issues with cheating. EA identified Linux's open-source nature as a primary avenue for cheats, which anti-cheat software struggles to detect, impacting the game's competitive integrity. This decision affects a small player base but aims to significantly reduce cheating incidents, similar to actions taken with other games like Valorant and Fortnite. Apex Legends will remain playable on Windows, including on devices like the Steam Deck if Windows is installed. Despite the Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) compatibility with Linux, the growing sophistication and frequency of Linux-based cheats necessitated this move. This decision reflects broader challenges game developers face in maintaining fair play on open-source platforms.
