Derby Robber Jailed After 100mph Taxi Chase

Leonard David, 26, has been sentenced to six years in prison for stealing a taxi at knifepoint and leading police on a dangerous 100mph chase through Derby city centre. The incident occurred on October 28, 2024, when David ordered a taxi, assaulted the driver, and demanded money while brandishing a knife. After stealing the Volkswagen Passat, he drove recklessly, evading police until the pursuit was abandoned for safety reasons. He was later apprehended outside a casino, where officers found the stolen keys and Class B drugs in his possession. David pleaded guilty to charges of robbery, dangerous driving, and possession of a knife. Following his conviction, he is banned from driving for six years and must pass an extended driving test upon completion of his ban.
