Hashem Abedi injures three prison officers in stabbing attack
Hashem Abedi, brother of the Manchester Arena bomber, is alleged to have attacked three prison officers at HMP Frankland in County Durham, leaving them with life-threatening injuries. The attack involved Abedi throwing hot cooking oil at the officers and using homemade weapons to stab them, according to the Prison Officers' Association (POA). The incident occurred in a separation unit designed for the most dangerous offenders, prompting calls for a review of the freedoms allowed to such prisoners. Abedi is currently serving a minimum of 55 years for his involvement in the May 2017 bombing that killed 22 people. The Ministry of Justice and police are investigating the incident, with the POA emphasizing the daily dangers faced by prison staff. Officials have stated that violence in prisons will not be tolerated, and they will push for stringent punishments for attacks on staff.
