37 Stolen Gold Coins Recovered in Florida

Florida authorities, with assistance from the FBI, have successfully recovered 37 of the 50 gold coins stolen from the 1715 Spanish Treasure Fleet shipwrecks, valued at over $1 million. The coins were originally discovered in 2015 by the Schmitt family, operating as 1715 Fleet - Queens Jewels, LLC. While 51 coins were reported, 50 were not, prompting a lengthy investigation. Eric Schmitt, a member of the family, has been linked to the illegal sale of these coins between 2023 and 2024, and is facing charges. Investigators utilized digital forensics to recover coins from various locations, including private residences and auctions. Despite this significant recovery, 13 coins remain missing.
