Woman Rescued After Shark Attack Near Mackay

A woman in her 50s was bitten by a shark while snorkeling off the coast of Mackay, Queensland, and is currently in stable condition at Mackay Base Hospital. The incident occurred around 4:30 pm, and emergency responders were alerted shortly after. The HMAS Warramunga diverted from a training exercise to rescue the woman, providing first aid on board before transporting her to the mainland. Queensland Ambulance Service reports that she sustained large lacerations to her lower leg, which were initially bandaged on a private boat to control bleeding. The rescue operation concluded with her arrival at Mackay Harbour around 12:30 am, where paramedics awaited her transfer to hospital care. This attack follows several other shark incidents in Australia this year.
