Hornets Break Ground on $150 Million Training Facility in Charlotte

The Charlotte Hornets held a groundbreaking ceremony for their new 160,000-square-foot Novant Health Performance Center, estimated to cost over $150 million, aimed at enhancing player development and wellness. Set to be completed by the start of the 2026-27 NBA season, the facility will feature two full-size basketball courts, extensive training and recovery areas, and administrative offices for more than 250 team members. Co-owner Rick Schnall expressed confidence that this facility would attract free agents and help rebuild the team, which has not made the playoffs in eight years. Former players like Kemba Walker and current players such as LaMelo Ball attended the ceremony, highlighting the importance of state-of-the-art facilities for player morale and retention. The project is also expected to positively impact the Uptown area with additional retail and public services. This initiative follows the Hornets' previous announcement of plans for facility upgrades back in 2022, with the city of Charlotte contributing $30 million to the project.
