Salmonella Outbreak Sickens 26 From Cucumber Products Across 15 States
The FDA has issued multiple recalls related to salmonella contamination in cucumbers and cucumber-containing products from Bedner Growers, Inc., distributed by Fresh Start Produce Sales, Inc. These recalls affect various items including salads, salsas, vegetable trays, sushi products, and marinated cucumber salads sold across numerous states, including Massachusetts, New York, Florida, and several others along the East Coast and Midwest. The outbreak linked to these cucumbers has sickened 26 people and hospitalized nine, with the FDA advising consumers to destroy any recalled products and avoid consumption. Separately, Williams Farms Repack LLC recalled fresh tomatoes potentially contaminated with salmonella in Georgia and the Carolinas, with the FDA designating this as a Class I recall due to serious health risks, though no illnesses have been reported from this recall so far. Salmonella symptoms typically appear within hours to days after exposure and can be severe for young children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. Consumers are urged to check product labels carefully and heed recall notices to prevent further illness.
