American Graduate Shot in West Bank Protest

Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a 26-year-old American and recent University of Washington graduate, was fatally shot by Israeli soldiers during a protest against settlement expansion in the West Bank. Eygi, who was engaged in a weekly demonstration, was described by her professors as kind-hearted and influential within her academic community. The U.S. government has confirmed her death and expressed deep concern, urging Israel to investigate the incident. Washington Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray condemned the killing and called for accountability from the Israeli government. Eygi was also a Turkish citizen, prompting a statement from Turkey's Foreign Ministry demanding justice for her death. This incident marks the second killing of a UW community member in the region in less than a year, following the death of Hayim Katsman during a Hamas attack in Israel.
