Mercedes-Benz Unveils Iconic Illuminated Grille on Electric GLC

Mercedes-Benz is launching a revolutionary illuminated grille design for its all-electric 2027 GLC with EQ Technology, marking a new era in the brand's electric vehicle aesthetics. The grille features 942 backlit square pixels that can be animated with various light shows, including greetings and a breathing effect, and prominently lights up the central star logo, although illumination options vary by region. This design draws inspiration from historical Mercedes models, particularly the 1902 Simplex, reinterpreting classic grid-matrix patterns into a modern, high-tech presentation that blends heritage with futuristic minimalism. The illuminated grille is optional, with a more understated unlit version also available, featuring a chrome frame and smoky glass-like lattice. Mercedes executives emphasize that this new grille redefines the brand's front-end identity, combining longstanding design elements with advanced technology to make the vehicles instantly recognizable and set a benchmark for future models. The electric GLC with this iconic grille will debut at the IAA Mobility show in Munich, signaling a significant shift in Mercedes-Benz's design language toward Sensual Purity and electric mobility.
