Backyard Baseball '97, a cult classic from the '90s, is set to be re-released on Steam on October 10, 2024, for $10, marking the game's 27th anniversary. The remaster, created by Playground Productions in collaboration with Mega Cat Studios, faced challenges due to the original source code being lost, requiring the team to hack the original CD-ROM to develop a compatible version for modern PCs. Playground CEO Lindsay Barnett expressed a commitment to honor the franchise's legacy while working on future titles. The game, which features beloved characters like Pablo Sanchez, is aimed at nostalgic fans now in their 20s and 30s, many of whom have fond memories of playing it as children. While currently exclusive to PC, there are plans for potential releases on other platforms. This marks a revival of the Backyard Sports series, which had been dormant since 2015.
