Glasgow Begins £21 Million Avenues Plus Project

Glasgow is set to undergo significant public realm improvements as part of the £21 million Avenues Plus programme, which will commence work on Cowcaddens Road and Dobbie’s Loan. The project aims to enhance pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, featuring widened pavements, segregated cycle lanes, and the planting of 59 new trees. A new pedestrian junction will connect Buchanan Bus Station with Glasgow Caledonian University, while safety concerns will be addressed by infilling an underpass and constructing a new stair. Modifications to traffic flow will include the closure of the north side of the Cowcaddens Road/Port Dundas Road junction to through traffic, except for emergency services. Local officials emphasize that these changes are crucial for improving the city center’s accessibility and attractiveness, supporting residents who do not have access to cars. The project is expected to be completed by spring 2026.
