Former Maryland Broadcaster Tim Strachan Dies at 49 After Cancer Battle
Tim Strachan, a former star quarterback at DeMatha Catholic High School who was paralyzed from the neck down in a 1993 swimming accident, passed away at age 49 after a battle with cancer. Despite his paralysis, Strachan forged an extraordinary path as a motivational speaker, attorney, and beloved Maryland football broadcaster, spending 22 years alongside Johnny Holliday calling Terps football games. He earned a law degree from Georgetown University and worked in significant legal roles including at the Federal Communications Commission and the Senate Judiciary Committee. Strachan’s resilience and positivity inspired many, with his high school community honoring him by retiring his jersey and establishing awards in his name. Known for his uplifting spirit and refusal to complain about adversity, he also formed close friendships, including a well-known bond with actress Jamie Lee Curtis. Strachan is survived by his wife and children and is remembered not only for his accomplishments but also for teaching life lessons about overcoming challenges.
