Manchester Synagogue Attack Kills Two, Injures Three

A car-ramming and stabbing attack outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue in Crumpsall, Manchester, on Yom Kippur left at least two people dead and three others in serious condition, officials said. Witnesses and a congregant alerted police and helped prevent the attacker from entering the synagogue; armed officers shot the suspected attacker, who is believed to be dead, while bomb disposal teams examined suspicious items on his person. Greater Manchester Police declared a major response (PLATO), put nearby hospitals on lockdown and initially held worshippers inside before evacuating them once the scene was secured. Prime Minister Keir Starmer cut short a European summit to return to the UK, convene a COBRA meeting and said additional police assets would be deployed to synagogues nationwide.
