Mirabai Chanu Wins Worlds Silver in 48kg
Mirabai Chanu won silver in the women’s 48kg at the 2025 World Weightlifting Championships in Førde, Norway, lifting a total of 199kg (84kg snatch, 115kg clean and jerk). North Korea’s Ri Song-gum took gold with world records of a 91kg snatch, a 122kg clean and jerk and a 213kg total, while Thailand’s Thanyathon Sukcharoen claimed bronze with 198kg. The podium is Chanu’s first Worlds medal since winning silver in 2022 and follows her Commonwealth gold earlier this year; she finished fourth at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Chanu is also the 2017 world champion. Her silver in Førde ends India’s three-year World Championships medal drought.
