Tom Cruise Expresses Desire for Musical Career at London BFI Talk

Tom Cruise, known for his action roles and particularly the Mission: Impossible franchise, has expressed a strong desire to return to musicals, a genre he first explored with his role as rock star Stacee Jaxx in Rock of Ages. Speaking at a British Film Institute (BFI) event ahead of receiving the BFI Fellowship, Cruise emphasized that musicals remain on his career bucket list alongside drama, action, and adventure. He reflected on his long-standing collaboration with Mission: Impossible writer and director Christopher McQuarrie, highlighting their ongoing creative partnership and Cruise's interest in evolving the action genre by integrating greater emotional storytelling. Cruise also shared his admiration for the franchise's iconic theme music, which initially drew him to produce the original 1996 film. Additionally, he mentioned his ambition to work with director Ben Stiller and his approach to learning new skills on set to enrich his performances. Currently promoting Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Cruise continues to push boundaries in his craft, performing stunts even during press tours, with the film set for release on May 21.
