Police Expand Probe into Al-Fayed Allegations
The Metropolitan Police in London has launched a new investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving the late billionaire Mohamed Al Fayed, following a BBC documentary that prompted over 400 women and witnesses to come forward. The police have identified 90 new victims, adding to previous allegations, and are investigating more than five individuals suspected of facilitating Al Fayed's offenses between 1977 and 2014. This investigation involves reviewing over 50,000 pages of evidence and past investigations to identify any missed opportunities or corruption within the force. Commander Stephen Clayman emphasized the importance of giving survivors a voice and rebuilding public trust in the police's handling of such cases. Al Fayed, who died in 2023, has been accused of severe sexual misconduct, with the youngest alleged victim being 13 years old, making him one of Britain's most prolific sex offenders. The police watchdog is considering an independent review of the Met's past investigations into Al Fayed's alleged crimes.
