Savannah Woman Sues Fertility Clinic Over Wrong Embryo Implantation

Krystena Murray, a 38-year-old woman from Savannah, has filed a lawsuit against Coastal Fertility Specialists after discovering that the clinic mistakenly implanted another couple's embryo, resulting in her giving birth to a Black baby despite being a White woman. Murray, who underwent in vitro fertilization, realized something was amiss when her baby did not resemble her or the sperm donor. After notifying the clinic, she was informed that the biological parents of the child demanded custody, leading her to surrender the baby after five months to avoid a legal battle. In her lawsuit, Murray accuses the clinic of negligence and emotional distress, stating that the experience has left her feeling profoundly violated and heartbroken. The clinic has yet to respond to the lawsuit, which seeks over $75,000 in damages, including punitive damages. Advocates are raising concerns about the lack of oversight in the fertility industry that could prevent such errors from occurring in the future.
