Bahrain, Abu Dhabi Funds Take Full McLaren Racing Ownership
Bahrain's sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat and Abu Dhabi-based CYVN Holdings have taken full ownership of McLaren Racing by acquiring all minority stakes previously held by MSP Sports Capital and other investors, valuing the Formula 1 team at approximately $5 billion. Mumtalakat remains the majority shareholder, while CYVN holds a non-controlling stake, continuing their significant investment in the British motor racing and automotive business. This acquisition follows CYVN's earlier purchase of McLaren Automotive and the formation of McLaren Group Holdings, which aims to expand McLaren's portfolio and leverage new technologies, including electrification and lightweight engineering. McLaren Racing has emerged as a dominant force in Formula 1, recently winning the Constructors' title for the first time since 1998 and is positioned to compete strongly this season. The simplified ownership structure is expected to strengthen McLaren's financial stability and ability to capitalize on future growth opportunities. MSP Sports Capital's leadership will exit McLaren's board following the transaction, marking the end of their minority investment begun in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic financial challenges.
