Vandals Target New San Francisco Oceanfront Park

The closed-off portion of San Francisco's Great Highway, now being transformed into an oceanfront park, has been repeatedly vandalized with graffiti, including anti-park messages. The graffiti, discovered on Sunday, featured slogans such as 'gentriffy' and 'Your bringing trouble' and reflects ongoing community division over the park's development. This marks the second incident this month after a mural by artist Emily Fromm was defaced following the highway's closure to car traffic on March 14. The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department has increased patrols in response to these acts of vandalism, which they describe as counterproductive. Despite the graffiti, community engagement remains high, with about 4,000 visitors to the park each weekend. The park is scheduled to officially open on April 12 amidst ongoing debates and a public naming contest.
