Animation Guild Reaches Tentative Deal with Studios

The Animation Guild (IATSE Local 839) has reached a tentative three-year agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) after extensive negotiations focused on wage increases and protections against artificial intelligence (AI). The new contract proposes a 7% wage hike in the first year, followed by 4% and 3.5% in subsequent years, along with improvements to health and pension funds. Key provisions also include safeguards surrounding the use of generative AI, which has raised significant concerns among animation workers regarding job security. The guild's negotiations were bolstered by support from various unions and a public campaign highlighting the pressing issues faced by animators, including layoffs and outsourcing. The contract will now be submitted for ratification by the guild's membership.
