Estonia Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage

Estonia became the fifteenth European Union country to legalize same-sex marriage, with the law taking effect on January 1, 2024. It allows same-sex couples to marry and transition from civil partnerships to marriage without difficulty, granting them equal rights and obligations under Estonian law. The law was championed by Minister of Social Protection Signe Riisalo, and Estonia's Prime Minister Kaja Kallas is credited with efforts to achieve marriage equality.
