Sombr Backlash After DC Show Goes Viral
On Oct. 13, a 25-year-old TikToker posted a nearly nine-minute viral critique of Sombr’s show at the Anthem in Washington, D.C., calling the performance “cringe,” criticizing vulgar jokes including a “Sombr Dating Show” and segments that prompted fans to “bark,” and advising anyone over 16 not to spend money on his concerts. Sombr (Shane Michael Boose), 20 and 6'7", posted a response defending his act, calling the attendee’s advice a “skill issue,” accusing her and others of body‑shaming and saying the exchange sparked a “massive body‑shaming hate train.” He said most of his shows emphasize music, that the humor reflects his established online persona, and that everyone is welcome at his concerts. Media and fan reactions were mixed, with some praising the performance and comparing his style to figures like David Bowie while others criticized the content and noted the online escalation into harassment. The dispute comes as Sombr’s profile has risen from TikTok hits like “Back to Friends” and “Undressed,” his August album I Barely Know Her and sold‑out tour dates, and he is slated to be a musical guest on Saturday Night Live.
