Vancouver Welcomes Two New Michelin-Starred Japanese Restaurants

The 2025 Michelin Guide awarded two Vancouver restaurants, Sumibiyaki Arashi and Sushi Hyun, one Michelin star each, raising the total number of starred restaurants in the city to 12. Sumibiyaki Arashi, led by Chef Pete Ho, was praised for setting a new gold standard of yakitori with its meticulous preparation of chicken skewers over binchotan coals. Sushi Hyun, under Chef Juhyun Lee, was recognized for its sophisticated Japanese luxury and exquisite omakase experience. Alongside the starred restaurants, the Bib Gourmand designation, which honors good quality food at a great value, was awarded to Good Thief, a Vietnamese cuisine establishment. Vancouver has been part of Michelin's Canadian selections since 2022, alongside Toronto, emphasizing its growing culinary prominence. The awards were announced at a ceremony held on October 2, 2025, highlighting the city's diverse and high-quality dining scene.
