Malaysian Armed Forces Promote First Chinese Lieutenant General Johnny Lim

Major General Datuk Johnny Lim Eng Seng has made history as the first Malaysian Chinese officer to be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF). His promotion ceremony, officiated by Chief of Defence Forces General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar and witnessed by all service chiefs, underscores the MAF's commitment to meritocracy, inclusiveness, and service excellence. Born and raised in Melaka, Lim received his early education at SK and SMK St Francis before joining the 25th Regular Commissioning Course and training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK. Commissioned into the Royal Ranger Regiment, Lim's career includes notable leadership roles such as Chief of Staff at the Western Field Command and Commandant of the National Resilience College, a position he will retain. The MAF hopes that Lim's achievement will inspire greater participation from all ethnic groups, reinforcing national unity and the principle of 'Unity in Diversity' within the military.
