Colorado Man Sues McDonald's Over E. Coli Outbreak

Eric Stelly from Greeley, Colorado, has filed the first lawsuit against McDonald's for $50,000 in damages following an E. coli outbreak linked to their Quarter Pounder burgers, which has resulted in one death and nearly 50 illnesses across 10 states. The lawsuit, filed in Cook County, Illinois, alleges negligence by McDonald's in food handling, with the outbreak primarily linked to slivered onions sourced from Taylor Farms, prompting McDonald's to remove the product from menus in multiple states. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention expects more cases but noted McDonald's swift action to mitigate the outbreak. McDonald's USA President Joe Erlinger has pledged to rebuild consumer trust after a 4.3% dip in the company's shares. Ron Simon, the attorney representing Stelly, plans to file additional lawsuits but not a class action, emphasizing individual representation for affected clients.
