Welsh Government Launches EV Chargepoint Consultation

Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram has initiated the first public consultation for the Mersey Tidal Project, which aims to create the world's largest tidal power scheme capable of powering hundreds of thousands of homes for 120 years. The consultation begins on October 1 and is part of the formal planning process that includes ecological surveys before a full planning submission in 2026. Meanwhile, the Welsh Government has launched a consultation regarding new mandates for electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints in residential and non-residential buildings to support the transition to net-zero emissions by 2050. Proposed regulations would require new homes with parking to have an EV chargepoint, and similar requirements would apply to buildings undergoing significant renovations. Additionally, the UK government is set to consult on allowing the sale of new hybrid EVs until 2035, maintaining its commitment to phase out petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030. These initiatives reflect a growing commitment to renewable energy and cleaner transportation across the UK.
