Blackburn Rovers Complete Signing Icelandic Striker Andri Gudjohnsen
Blackburn Rovers have signed 23-year-old Icelandic striker Andri Gudjohnsen from Belgian club Gent on a three-year deal with an option for a 12-month extension, reportedly for a fee of 2 million euros. Gudjohnsen, son of former football star Eidur Gudjohnsen, has experience across European leagues including youth stints at Barcelona and Real Madrid, a loan spell at Danish side Lyngby, and a season at Swedish club IFK Norrkoping. He scored five goals in 32 league appearances for Gent last season and has nine goals in 34 caps for the Iceland national team. Blackburn's head coach, Jon Dahl Tomasson, highlighted Gudjohnsen's physicality, pace, tactical discipline, and potential, viewing him as a complete striker who complements the club’s playing style. The signing aims to bolster a Blackburn side that has had a challenging start to the Championship season, with Gudjohnsen expected to compete for starting minutes alongside other forwards. He will soon join Iceland's national team for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Azerbaijan and France.
