Man in 60s Attacked by Shark in Queensland
A man in his 60s was attacked by a shark while spearfishing near Curtis Island, Queensland, at approximately 8:25 AM on Monday, sustaining lacerations and abrasions on both arms and one hand. Bystanders provided first aid, helping to control his bleeding before emergency services transported him to Gladstone Hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition. Authorities noted that there are no shark nets or drumlines in the area, and the species of shark involved remains unidentified. Queensland Ambulance Service highlighted the prompt response of local police and paramedics in managing the incident. Fisheries Queensland is collaborating with other agencies regarding the attack and advises swimmers to take precautions in the water. This incident adds to a total of four shark attacks recorded in Australian waters in 2024.
