Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) continues to pose a significant global health threat, despite progress made over the past decade. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared AMR a global emergency in 2015 and has since seen some decline in antibiotic use in animals and the establishment of national surveillance systems. However, over one million deaths are directly attributed to bacterial AMR each year, highlighting the ongoing challenge. In 2023, the WHO launched the Task Force of Antimicrobial Resistance Survivors, which aims to include patient narratives in the fight against AMR, emphasizing the human aspect of the crisis. Task force members, including survivors like Vanessa Carter and Sue Charles, are dedicated to influencing AMR policies and raising awareness.
