Liu Jiakun Wins 2025 Pritzker Architecture Prize

Chinese architect Liu Jiakun has been awarded the 2025 Pritzker Prize, recognizing his unique approach that blends local culture, sustainability, and modernity in architecture. His notable works, including West Village and Luyeyuan Stone Sculpture Art Museum, reflect a deep connection to community and the environment, earning him accolades for integrating traditional Chinese elements with contemporary design. Liu emphasizes material honesty and local craftsmanship, using innovative methods such as 'Rebirth Bricks' made from earthquake rubble. He is only the second Chinese architect to receive this prestigious honor since Wang Shu in 2012. The Pritzker jury praised Liu for creating spaces that foster community and enhance daily life. His award ceremony will take place in Abu Dhabi this spring.
