Russian national Denis Postovoy, residing in Sarasota, Florida, was arrested for illegally exporting U.S. microelectronic components used in drones to Russia. Postovoy and his network allegedly procured these components from U.S. distributors and exported them via intermediary destinations like Hong Kong and Switzerland without the required licenses, concealing their true end users and destinations. His actions, beginning in February 2022 after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, aimed to bolster Russia's military capabilities. Payments for these exports were funneled through foreign bank accounts. The arrest is part of a broader initiative by U.S. authorities to prevent hostile regimes from acquiring sensitive technologies. Russia’s Embassy in Washington has been informed and has pledged consular and legal assistance for Postovoy.
