Planning Application Submitted for 1,000-Home Bradford City Village Project
Plans for the Bradford City Village regeneration project have been officially submitted, aiming to transform the city centre's former commercial core into a vibrant new neighbourhood with nearly 1,000 homes. The scheme covers three key sites: Oastler Market, Kirkgate Shopping Centre, and Chain Street, and includes new roads, public green spaces, and cycle and walking routes to promote a green, healthy, and sustainable community. The first phase will feature 97 homes including 33 townhouses on Chain Street and 64 on the northern Oastler site, with demolition of the 1970s Oastler Shopping Centre expected to begin later this year and construction starting in spring 2026. Later phases will add over 700 apartments, retail, and community spaces, supported by £30 million in government funding from Homes England and £13.2 million from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. The project aims to revitalize the area that has suffered declining footfall due to business relocations and the closure of major stores, creating up to 300 full-time jobs and fostering a community where people want to live, work, and thrive. Bradford Council and its partners emphasize the development's role in setting a new tone for ongoing regeneration efforts in the city centre.
