Mooresville Mother Faces Multiple Charges in Child's Death

Riley Tehy Wormington, a 23-year-old mother from Mooresville, North Carolina, has been charged with second-degree murder after her child died from ingesting a lethal dose of fentanyl on February 13, 2024. Despite lifesaving efforts by first responders, the child could not be saved. Following the death, Wormington moved to Colorado, where she was arrested by U.S. Marshals on February 18, 2025. She faces multiple charges, including felony child abuse, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, and charges related to her second child, born shortly before her arrest. Wormington is currently awaiting extradition back to Iredell County to face these charges.
