Multiple Major Highway Closures Across California and Canada for Infrastructure Repairs

Caltrans has postponed the closure of Highway 166 to September 29 to allow for rehabilitation and seismic retrofitting of the California Aqueduct bridge, with the closure expected to last 75 days and detours routed via State Routes 33 and 119 as well as Interstate 5. The highway will be closed 24/7 between Old River Road and Interstate 5 during this period. Separately, a four-month closure of the eastbound lane of the Bay Street bridge in Victoria will begin in October for drainage and structural upgrades, keeping the westbound lane open and providing detours via nearby bridges. Additionally, Caltrans will conduct cable barrier repairs on Highway 99 on September 20 and 21, resulting in lane and ramp closures during daytime hours. These infrastructure projects aim to improve safety and extend the lifespan of critical transportation routes, though they will cause disruptions requiring detours and caution from drivers.
