Saudi Arabia, UAE Advance Autonomous Mobility Initiatives
Saudi Arabia has launched its first autonomous Robotaxi service in Riyadh, powered by WeRide technology, as part of the Vision 2030 initiative to modernize urban mobility. The pilot covers seven key locations, including King Khalid International Airport and the ROSHN Business Front, using vehicles equipped with advanced AI, sensors, and real-time navigation, with human safety operators present during initial operations. Plans are in place to eventually transition to fully driverless rides. Separately, the ROSHN Group and Jahez have debuted the country's first autonomous food delivery robots in Riyadh, highlighting further advances in smart urban services. Meanwhile, WeRide and Uber have expanded Robotaxi operations in Abu Dhabi, now covering half the city's core areas and aiming for full driverless public access soon. These initiatives underscore the Gulf region's leadership in autonomous mobility and sustainable urban innovation.
