Ex-Employee Charged in Navy Pier Double Murder
Raylon East, a 36-year-old former employee at Navy Pier, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of unlawful use of a weapon after allegedly shooting and killing two former co-workers, Lamont Johnson and Peter Jennings, at Navy Pier in Chicago. The incident occurred in a loading dock area on Tuesday afternoon, and East was arrested on Thursday in the 7000 block of South Cottage Grove. Described by police as a disgruntled ex-employee, East had been terminated from his position and used public transportation to flee the scene after the shooting. The victims were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. East is scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing on Saturday. Navy Pier expressed gratitude to the Chicago Police Department for their swift action and extended condolences to the victims' families.
