Sumrall Denies LSU Move, Emphasizes Tulane Focus

Jon Sumrall, 38–10 in four seasons as a college head coach at Troy and Tulane, has repeatedly been linked to Power Four openings — including LSU after Brian Kelly’s firing — but says the coaching carousel is not on his mind this midseason. He says his sole focus is coaching Tulane and preparing for Thursday’s road game at UTSA, and that he has been “micro-focused” in practice to avoid complacency and distraction. Tulane is 6-1 (3-0 in the American) and is vying for the conference title and a likely Group of Five College Football Playoff auto-bid; UTSA has been dominant at home in conference play (22-0 since 2020). Sumrall told players in July to ignore speculative articles and transfer chatter, said he loves coaching at Tulane and would not be driven by money or outside offers. He also acknowledged the human cost of in-season coaching changes and urged everyone connected to the program to stay focused on winning each week.
