Amir Khan Co-Launches Global Fighters' Union

Amir Khan has co-founded the Global Fighters' Union (GFU), set to launch in January 2025, aimed at improving standards for boxers and mixed martial artists. The GFU will address critical issues like safety, pay, and support for fighters, who often face challenges in an unregulated industry. Khan emphasized the need for an organization where fighters can seek help for various issues, from contracts to retirement, highlighting the lack of institutional support in combat sports. The GFU's initiative includes advocating for broadcasters to adopt revenue-sharing models similar to that of the Professional Footballers' Association, directing funds towards health programs and legal support. Co-founder Paul Smith mentioned that groundwork has been laid throughout 2024 to establish the GFU as a recognized trade union. The GFU aims to unify fighters and advocate for their rights, creating a significant positive change in combat sports.
