Barcelona Extends Raphinha Contract Until 2028 After Domestic Treble
Barcelona forward Raphinha has signed a contract extension through June 2028 after a breakthrough 2024-25 season in which he helped the club secure a domestic treble, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup. The Brazilian, who was previously under contract until 2027, scored 34 goals and provided over 22 assists across all competitions, including 13 goals in the Champions League, making him the joint top scorer in the tournament despite Barca falling in the semifinals to Inter Milan. Raphinha's outstanding performances have placed him among the frontrunners for the 2025 Ballon d'Or, and he was instrumental in key matches such as a hat-trick against Bayern Munich and a brace in El Clasico versus Real Madrid. Initially considering leaving Barcelona after a disappointing prior campaign, he was persuaded to stay by coach Hansi Flick, who also recently extended his own contract. Raphinha's role shifted to the left flank this season due to the emergence of young winger Lamine Yamal on the right, and both players have been pivotal in Barcelona's potent attack alongside striker Robert Lewandowski. The club is also working on contract renewals for other key players, signaling a commitment to maintaining their competitive core.
