Braves Claim RHP Alexis Díaz Off Dodgers Waivers
The Los Angeles Dodgers have designated right-handed pitcher Alexis Díaz for assignment after a difficult stretch during the 2025 season. Díaz, a 2023 National League All-Star who was previously the closer for the Cincinnati Reds, struggled significantly with a 5.00 ERA in nine appearances for the Dodgers and a 12.00 ERA in six appearances with the Reds earlier in the season. The Dodgers made roster room for catcher Ben Rortvedt, who was selected as Will Smith recovers from a hand injury, prompting Díaz's removal from the 40-man roster. Despite his recent struggles, Díaz has a strong career record with 75 saves and 224 strikeouts from 2022 to 2024. Following his designation, the Atlanta Braves claimed Díaz off waivers, hopeful he can regain his effectiveness, particularly with his slider. Díaz's brother and fellow MLB player Edwin Díaz had noted Alexis’s initial excitement upon joining the Dodgers before the downturn in performance.
