Timor-Leste Joins ASEAN as 11th Member, Boosting Regional Integration

Timor-Leste has officially become the 11th member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), marking a historic milestone for the country and the regional bloc. The accession, formalized during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, reflects Timor-Leste's long-standing efforts and reforms aimed at regional cooperation and sustainable development. ASEAN leaders, including Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, welcomed Timor-Leste, highlighting that its membership completes the ASEAN family and strengthens the region’s geopolitical and economic influence, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.
