Former Haas Boss Steiner Leads MotoGP Tech3 Team Takeover
Guenther Steiner, former Haas Formula 1 team principal and star of the Netflix series Drive to Survive, is leading an American consortium to acquire full ownership of the Red Bull KTM Tech3 MotoGP team, with the deal expected to take full effect in 2026. Steiner will assume the role of CEO, while Richard Coleman will become Team Principal, and Hervé Poncharal, the team's founder and current principal, will transition to a consultancy role after the 2025 season. The team will continue to operate under the Tech3 name, retain its French base, and run KTM machinery under existing agreements. The acquisition is valued at approximately €20 million and funded by a group including IKON Capital, marking a significant change as Tech3 aims to build on its legacy and grow within MotoGP’s expanding landscape under Liberty Media's ownership. Poncharal expressed confidence in Steiner's leadership, highlighting his straightforward personality and ambition to maintain the team’s spirit and competitiveness. This takeover is seen as a positive development for MotoGP, blending Steiner's motorsport management experience and public appeal with the team’s potential to attract new fans and compete at a high level.
