UAE Launches World's First Gigascale Renewable Project

The UAE has launched the world's first large-scale 'round the clock' gigascale project that combines solar power and battery storage, capable of producing 1 gigawatt of clean energy daily. Announced in Abu Dhabi with the presence of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the initiative aims to address the intermittency challenge of renewable energy by providing uninterrupted power supply. The project features a 5.2 GW solar photovoltaic plant linked to a 19 GWh battery energy storage system, setting a global benchmark for clean energy innovation. Masdar's Chairman, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, emphasized that this groundbreaking facility transforms renewable energy into reliable baseload power, marking a significant step in the UAE's clean energy transformation efforts. The project is part of the UAE's broader goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
