Greenwood Opens New Sports Complex for Youth Tournaments

Greenwood, Indiana, is set to unveil its new $10 million Sports Park this Friday, featuring eight hybrid turf fields designed for baseball and softball tournaments. Managed by Greenwood Parks and Recreation, the facility is expected to attract regional sports events, boosting local tourism and economic activity. Mayor Mark Myers emphasized the importance of this complex for the community, stating, "We want to get in the game" and enhance the area's sports offerings. The park, located near Interstate 65, includes amenities like a splash pad, playground, and cricket pitch, and is anticipated to host its first softball tournament this weekend. Greenwood Parks and Recreation Director Rob Taggart expressed optimism for the park's future, expecting a positive response from tournament directors and a successful debut next spring and summer. This development is seen as a significant step for Greenwood in establishing itself as a competitive youth sports destination.
