Mississippi College to Become Mississippi Christian University

Mississippi College will officially change its name to Mississippi Christian University in 2026, coinciding with its bicentennial celebrations. This decision, approved by the Board of Trustees, aims to reinforce the institution's commitment to academic excellence and Christian values while retaining the iconic MC logo. Additionally, the university will undergo significant academic restructuring, including elevating the Department of Christian Studies and merging several academic schools to enhance operational efficiency. The athletic department will also see changes, notably the discontinuation of the football program to focus resources on its 17 remaining NCAA Division II sports. President Blake Thompson emphasized the necessity of these transformations for the institution's future sustainability and recognition as a leading Christian university. Mississippi College, founded in 1826, is the oldest institution of higher learning in Mississippi.
