Violence Erupts Over Udaipur Royal Succession

Udaipur witnessed a violent clash following the coronation of Vishvaraj Singh Mewar, BJP MLA and the newly anointed 77th Maharana of Mewar, due to a family feud with his uncle Arvind Singh Mewar. The conflict arose when Vishvaraj Singh and his supporters were denied entry into the City Palace and Eklingnath Temple, both controlled by Arvind Singh, who had issued legal notices against unauthorized entry. The refusal led to stone-pelting and aggressive confrontations between factions, with several injuries reported. Despite mediation attempts by local authorities, including heavy police deployment, the standoff continued with tensions running high outside the palace. The underlying dispute stems from a long-standing property conflict following the death of Vishvaraj’s father, Mahendra Singh Mewar, and his estrangement from his brother Arvind Singh. Efforts to resolve the issue diplomatically are ongoing, with the district administration involved in talks with both parties.
