UK Plans Mass Migrant Deportations, France Returns Begin
The UK is facing a record surge in small boat crossings across the English Channel, with 28,288 migrants arriving in 2025, a 46% increase from the previous year. In response, the Labour government under Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is set to implement a 'One in, One Out' deal with France, which will see more than 100 migrants deported back to France within weeks. This policy has been met with criticism from both opposition parties and some within Labour, as polling shows a majority of voters disapprove of the government's handling of the asylum and migrant hotel issues. Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, has proposed a far more radical approach, pledging mass deportations of up to 600,000 asylum seekers, including women and children, alongside scrapping the Human Rights Act and withdrawing from the European Convention on Human Rights to facilitate these actions. Farage’s plan includes detaining migrants in military facilities and deporting them daily, claiming it would save billions by ending asylum hotel costs, though legal experts warn British common law may impede such mass deportations. Despite these efforts, questions remain about the effectiveness of deportation deals with France, as crossings continue unabated and France appears uncooperative with UK policies.
