Alley Theatre Strabane Closes Six Months for Water Leak Repairs

The Alley Theatre in Strabane, Northern Ireland, is set to close for approximately six months starting September 25, 2025, due to a substantial water leak that caused significant damage requiring extensive repair and restoration work. Derry City and Strabane District Council conducted thorough assessments, including external reports, confirming the urgent need for repairs and a lengthy drying-out period. The closure will result in the cancellation of scheduled events, including the Strabane Drama Festival, which faces challenges finding affordable alternative venues. Council representatives and Sinn Féin councillor Barney Harte described the closure as regrettable but necessary for safety and effective repairs. Efforts are underway to minimize the impact on the community by assisting with alternative venue arrangements and working with insurers to reduce financial costs to ratepayers. Staff will remain employed and support theatre projects or other council services during the closure, with the venue tentatively accepting provisional bookings only from September 2026 onward.
